Although The Wheatsheaf my suggest agricultural roots as a pub sign, it may have another reference.
The Wheatsheaf appears in a number of coats of arms, but there is no particular suggestion that this is the case here. It is also a device appearing on the Worshipful Company of Bakers' arms since 1486.
