Long abandoned, the former Higginsport School still looms impressively above the small river town of Higginsport, Ohio.

Built in 1880, the Higginsport School was initially built to service a student population of 250, impressive considering that the current population of the town is 291. The school was closed following consolidation in 1987, and the building was considered for demolition, but after providing shelter for displaced residents in the 1997 flood, more support was found for preserving the building as a State Historical Building.
