The house and barn are the remains of the Van Ness farmstead. Now a residential neighborhood, the surrounding area once was the farm.

This c. 1900 farm with barns, chicken coop, privy and hand pumped well was owned by carpenter Jesse Van Ness, whose family farmed this land since 1713. The farmstead is typical of many others that once thrived in Pequannock.
