The sign outside of the water wheel building states:
This 20' diameter brass water wheel was invented by Alfred I. duPont in 1926. The water wheel was one of the first pressurized water systems in Florida. It was fed from an artesian well for the purpose of aerating and pumping water throughout the duPont estate. The wheel was built at a cost of about $100,000 and took years to design and construct. During his lifetime, Alfred duPont patented over 200 of his inventions. Today, this reminds us of the remarkable accomplishments of Alfred I. duPont and helps commemorate all the patents he created.
