This train station was built in 1911 during the Pennsylvania Rail Road's plan to elevate the tracks between Harrisburg and Pitsburgh. The train station was renovated in the 1990's using federal funds due to the structure being listed on the national register. Elevators to the platforms were added at that time. 2005 marked the first time since the station's history that it was served by one train in each direction daily. The station is opened by a caretaker on a daily basis (who also directs visitors to the proper platform).
