Long Description:
This mark is embedded in the north side of the Congress Street bridge over Fort Point Channel in Boston. Repeated visits have yielded limited information on the mark, and the mark may be paved over or destroyed in the ongoing construction on the bridge, so be warned if you go to seek it.
However, the mark is approximately two-fifths of the way across the bridge from the eastern shore. It is a metal disk, worn over time, such that the only markings on it that are legible are "US ENGINEER DEPARTMENT STA" and "ELEV." According to surveyor paint around the disk, the mark has an elevation of 17.10. This is presumed to be either meters or yards. The mark currently projects about a half-inch above the ground, although this may be due to removal of a layer of walkway during construction.
