IN THE COMPLETION OF THIS MONUMENT.
The column was aquired from the Pennsylvania Bank Building in Philadelphia, after the razing of that building in 1868. The completion of the monument was called into question after debts surfaced. Eli Crozier, a newspaper owner of "We the People," stepped forward to pay off the debt, allowing for the unveiling in 1871.
Today the monument can be found on a triangular block surrounded by Delaware Avenue, 14th Street and North Broom Street. Parking is available on Delaware Avenue.
