This sculpture of a Columbian mammoth and her baby is located near the entrance to the Elephant Odyssey area of the San Diego Zoo. The placard accompanying the sculpture reads:
"Extinct Columbian Mammoth
Staying close to mom meant life or death for
mammoth calves. They were prime pickings
for Pleistocene predators like the
saber-toothed cat.
