The well is dedicated to St. Brendan an early Celtic Saint. St Brendan known as "The Navigator because of his many voyages. He was born in 484 AD and died in 577 AD. Legend has that St. Brendan sailed to Valentia, scaled the nearby cliffs and just in time baptized and anointed two dying pages. The well has a couple crude stone crosses standing nearby and is called Tobar olla Bhreanain, the well of St. Brendan's anointing.
