Located near the Elephant Odyssey at the San Diego Zoo, this sculpture depicts a huge bird that is now extinct.
The placard for the work reads:
"Extinct Merriam's Teratorn
This bird of prey weighed more than 30 pounds
(13kg) and had a wingspan of 10 to 12 feet
(3 to 3.6m). Unlike condors, it probably had
a feathered head and stalked its prey on the
ground, swallowing it whole.
