This now hideous and dangerous park was once much larger, beautiful and safe.

According to the American Guide Series, ...on Green Bank Rd., a macadamized highway, to Franklin D. Roosevelt Park, 3 m. (athletic fields, playgrounds, bathing beach). Much of the work on the 500-acre municipally owned park has been done by the WPA. --- New Jersey, a Guide to Its Present and Past By Federal Writers' Project, 1939, page 602
This park is perfectly rectangular and takes up exactly one block. Four intersecting roads at its four corners make up its boundaries. Once beautiful, now downtrodden, dirty and dangerous to visit at night. Local savages have defaced, destroyed and decimated this once beautiful spot. Such a shame.
When I visited I found empty bags used for narcotics, a few needles, cigarette butts, empty liquor bottles and garbage strewn all over. I thought this was a shame as the park used to be a jewel for this area. At one time there was water here, and beach and people used to bathe in the 30s. Today, the park has its own attractions but they seem to go unnoticed. In the park are several beautiful war memorials, a gazebo, a nice town clock, benches and a rail station which appeared clean and relatively safe. I observed no playgrounds in this park.
