The bronze bust sits on a pedestal by the entrance to the station. On the pedestal is a plaque. The plaque reads:
"In lasting memory of John B Williams, 1917-1976, a man of vision, compassion, and courage. Executive director of the Oakland Redevelopment Agency 1964-1976. Dedicated by his colleagues who elected him president of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials 1972- 1975."
