A stone memorial in the City Hall memorial garden in memory of Police Sergeant Michael Hawcroft who was stabbed to death trying to arrest 2 youths who were trying to steal a car on 12th March 1981.

In 1983 he was posthumously awarded the Queen's Commendation for bravery.
This memorial is in the memorial garden on Norfolk Gardens down the side of the City Hall.
There are a number of memorials in the garden behind fairly low hedges. There is no indication that the memorials are here and it is easy to miss them.
The memorial stands vertically from the ground is made of stone and looks like a headstone but is not as regularly shaped.
The inscription is in blue lettering reads.
