Structure has a Texas Historical marker in front of it which reads in part, "Montgomery United Methodist Church built two more sanctuaries here in 1852 and 1908 before moving to a new location in 2002."
Ten years after this building was completed, a storm destroyed the cupola of the steeple. In 2002 when the congregation relocated to the site of their new sanctuary, they removed the stained glass windows and also the 1853 bell from the bell tower.
