Gatewood East Historic District was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004 (#04000127). This District is bounded roughly by N. W. 16th Street, N. Classen Blvd., N. of N.W. 22nd Street and N. Blackwelder/N. Florida Avenues.

The District consists of 422 contributing buildings and one site. Most buildings are single family dwellings in the Bungalow/Craftsman style, as well as several other styles. Construction of most buildings was during the 1920s, during the financial boom brought on by the discovery of oil in the region. By 1930, construction was complete.

With the establishment of the streetcar and interurban systems, access to the area was improved and people flocked in to buy homes and open businesses.

The coordinates given are at the site of the Victoria Building at 1901 N. Classen Blvd., a large commercial building which once housed a theater, and is still in use today.
