One of five major railway companies in Sioux Falls, Illinois Central Railway Company arrived on Dec. 19, 1887.
This railway was utilitized for transportating the Sioux quartzite and for freight and passenger service beginning in 1888. The depot was built on the east side of the river between 10th and 8th streets and still stands today.
