This elephant statue is a shrine to the Thai interpretation of the divine white elephant Airavata, who carries the Hindu god Indra upon its back. The sculpture depicts a four headed Erawan, on a white, marble base, with religious text around. The shrine is located on a large traffic island in the heart of the tourist sector of Bangkok, near a sizeable number of other attractions, including the Grand Palace and the National Museum.
