Lava Glass, on the main highway north of Taupo, is a popular tourist attraction, displaying the art of glass blowing and includes a shop and gallery containing a wonderful display of glass creations made in the studio by Lynden Over, Chris Jones and other talented glass artists.
The owner is Lynden Over, one of New Zealand's renowned glass blowers. His work is exhibited in galleries in New Zealand and Australia as well as many private collections. The gallery has the biggest selection of glass art in New Zealand, including Lynden Over's full collection and a variety of other New Zealand glass artists.
Lynden Over has studied glass extensively. He has a background in jewellery and sculpture which contributes to his unique style.
He says, "I work with glass in its hot molten state, I love the fluidity and movement it allows. My inspiration is the natural environment, the spaces beyond our Earth."
Lynden's work includes bowls, stopper bottles, vases, spiral bottles, galactic bowls, paper weights, pillar platters and more. All pieces are individually made, and therefore all vary slightly in shape size and design, making each original piece perfect as collector’s items. All designs are available in a selection of colors and are signed by the artist.
