The building was originally a smaller church Sunday School, built in 1819. The chimney is on the part of the building added in 1871 when it became a full school.
This school building closed in 2003, when a new larger school was built about 1 mile away.
It looks like there is some old ironwork in the gap between the two legs of the chimney. It's possible the school bell was suspended there, but I don't know if that is so.
