Surrounded by a chain fence, the flame burns out of a metal leaf  and has a bronze plaque on a raised concrete pillar behind it.

The bronze plaque reads:

FREEDOM FLAME

DEDICATED NOVEMBER 11, 1969
BY
EARL S. BAILEY POST 430, THE AMERICAN LEGION
IN HONOR OF
THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR ALL
FOR THE FREEDOM WE ENJOY

The flame had deteriorated over the years, but in 2010, it was refurbished by Brandon Holmes as an Eagle Scout Project. While the flame is operational, it is currently lit only a few times a year since it must be closely supervised any time it is burning.
