The Storm Lake area offers a lot of “tours” such as historical trees, windmill farms, and chainsaw carvings, but one of the most fascinating trips through the countryside is the search for painted barn quilts. More than 40 of these works of art embellish the barns all over Buena Vista County.

It is no surprise that the beautiful “From the Manger Through the Cross to Glory” quilt is found on a barn belonging to a pastor. Located several miles west of Alta, this farm is a very short distance down 570th Street, a gravel road off Hwy. 7. The barn was constructed in the mid 1870’s, and appears to still be in use. The quilt is on the east side of the building.
