On the east side of Marlow, Oklahoma in Redbud Park is a large red granite monument telling the story of the five sons of Dr. Williamson Marlow, who were early settlers of the town. A fascinating story is told of their adventures, their lives and their deaths.

A book called "The Life of the Marlows" was the basis for a screen script written by Talbot Jennings, which later was used to create the film, "The Sons of Katie Elder," filmed in 1965 and starring John Wayne and Dean Martin.

A local Marlow, OK resident, Mickey Hoy wrote the ballad "Outlaw Ride" based on the Marlow Brothers. The first part of this song goes as follows:

"In southern Oklahoma, along the Chisholm Trail
Lives a story about a family's pride
For one hundred years or so, the memory still remains,
The fateful legend of an outlaw ride.
Horse stealin' was the charge against George and Alf and Charlie
While a shoot-out with a lawman followed Boone
With no way to prove their innocence, they chose life on the run
Riding 'neath the Oklahoma moon

Doc Marlow had five ornery sons, and some folks think its true
That they were on the lawless side
And sometimes on an autumn night when the air is clear and cool
I swear I still can hear those outlaws ride"

Judge Andrew Phelps McCormick, 1891 is quoted as saying, "This is the first time in the annals of history where unarmed prisoners, shackled together, ever repelled a mob. Such cool courage that preferred to fight against such great odds and die in glorious battle."
