The Veterans Memorial includes this impressive weeping wall that is topped with an eternal flame.
There is a plaque that discribes the use of the elements in the Memorial, including the waterfall. It is quoted here:
"The entire design of the Plaza incorporates various artistic elements while it represents certain aspects of service to our country. It was the express purpose to create a design that would be eternal rather than traditional. In this way, the Plaza represents all veterans, not just those who have preceded us, but those who are yet to come.
The obelisk honors courage and is made of three-eigths of an inch thick stainless steel. The sphere represents unity and global service. It is hand hewn granite weighing sixteen tons.
The flame signifies valor and sacrifice.
The water represents healing."
