This native sandstone building located at the northwest corner of N. Second Street and Pennsylvania Avenue has the distinct look of a WPA-constructed building. However, no plaque could be found to verify this. We did find a place where a plaque has been removed and suspect it was the proof. But we will have to forego posting this as WPA, without proof.

NOTE Added after publication: Have since found this building shown on a list of WPA-constructed buildings in Chickasha. It was listed as City Warehouse.

There is a stone plaque on the building, however, which shows it to be constructed in 1940. On the plaque are the names of the then Mayor, Treasurer, Clerk, Street Commissioner, Chief of Police and Council Members. The plaque also shows the architect to be Paul Harris.

This is a one-story native sandstone building which is L-shaped. The north-south running wing has three-over-three fixed windows, with an overhead door on the north elevation. The shorter east-west wing has larger, deeper four-over-four windows and also has an overhead door on the east side. This is definitely an industrial, garage-type building and with the City names on the plaque, the supposition is that this was a City of Chickasha garage and shop for City equipment.
Year of construction: 1940

Full inscription:
1940 with names of the Mayor, Treasurer, Clerk, Street Commission, Chief of Police and City Council members.
