The Grady County Courthouse is located at 326 W. Choctaw Avenue in the county seat of Chickasha, OK. This is a beautiful Art Deco building, constructed of Texas Shellstone in 1934-1935.
High on the west wall of the courthouse, facing Fourth Street is an etched quotation from Justinian. It reads:
"The safety of the state is the highest law."
Justinian was a Roman Emperor from 527-565 BC. One of his greatest legacies was the uniform re-writing of Roman Law, which is the basis of civil law in many modern states.
