The statue, base, and inscriptions are as described in the Smithsonian entry at the website. However since that entry the statue has been restored and rededicated. In front of the statue is a small granite block with the following:
This doughboy memorial was restored
due to the efforts of
Veterans of foreign Wars Post 1836
Disabled American Veterans Post 84
East Texas Monument Co.
Signs by Joan
Bill's Gun Trader
Rededicated on February 18, 2002
From the doughboysearcher website:
"According to the Angelina Veteran Service Officer, the rifle is a replacement that is a different model from the 1903 Springfield at other Doughboys.
By April, 2006, the once-missing bayonet had been replaced, but the rifle sling had disappeared."
Note that at the time of the waymark creation, Jan 2011, there is now a sling on the rifle.
