Prenant sa source au lac des Commissaires, puis passant par le lac Bouchette, la rivière Ouiatchouan d’une longueur de 109 km, parcourt une immense réserve forestière de plus de 150 milles. Un peu avant de terminer sa course dans le lac St-Jean, la rivière fait un premier bond de 49 mètres à la chute Maligne, puis un second de 72 mètres à la chute Ouiatchouan. Cette dernière chute offre donc, par sa hauteur et par son débit d’eau, tout le potentiel hydraulique nécessaire à la réalisation du complexe industriel fondé par Damase Jalbert à la fin du 19e siècle
Taking its source in Lake of Commissioners, then through Lake Bouchette the Ouiatchouan River with a length of 109 km, runs through an immense forest reserve of over 150 miles. Just before finishing its run in the Lake St-Jean, the river makes a first jump of 49 meters at the Maligne fall, then a second 72 meters jump at the Ouiatchouan fall. This last fall provides, by its height and its water flow, all the hydropower potential needed to achieve the industrial complex founded by Damase Jalbert in the end of 19th century.
