Now behind a high fence, because some one shot holes in the statue, and twisted the rifle.

COMRADES
1861 ~ 1865
Proper Description as provided by the Smithsonian:
Full-length figure of a Civil War soldier standing at parade rest. He is dressed in uniform, wears a cap and has a knapsack and bedroll on his back. He holds the end of his rifle with both hands, the butt of the gun rests on the ground. The bronze sculpture rests on a granite pedestal within a fenced enclosure.
The statue is of a Union Soldier, as best as I can identify through research; yet the restoration was aided by two Confederate groups, and NO Civil War Union group aided. Curious.
So, with that in mind, maybe this is a Confederate Monument after all?
