Long Description:

County of Memorial: Seward County
Location of Monument: 1900 W. 15th St., city cemetery, Liberal
Text on Plaque:

1861 ~ 1865

Proper Description as provided by the Smithsonian:
Full-length figure of a Civil War soldier standing at parade rest. He is dressed in uniform, wears a cap and has a knapsack and bedroll on his back. He holds the end of his rifle with both hands, the butt of the gun rests on the ground. The bronze sculpture rests on a granite pedestal within a fenced enclosure.

The statue is of a Union Soldier, as best as I can identify through research; yet the restoration was aided by two Confederate groups, and NO Civil War Union group aided. Curious.
So, with that in mind, maybe this is a Confederate Monument after all?

Date Installed or Dedicated: 5/30/1916

Name of Government Entity or Private Organization that built the monument: City of Liberal Cemetery Care

Union, Confederate or Other Monument: Other or General Civil War
