Using marble and travertino stone, the fountain was comission by pope Clemente XI (fam. Albani), and designed by Alessandro Specchi in 1704. It is fed by the Acquedotto Felice water source.

It is decorated with a sea shell, and two dolphins. It was originally placed on the urban port of Ripetta, the latter destroyed when the river banks have been rebuilt in 1870.

From it's original location, it has been moved several times, and now located in front of the San Rocco church. A lantern was placed on top to facilitate the navigation by night.

this fountain is also known as
Fontana del Porto di Ripetta
Fontana dei Naviganti
Fontana Clementina
