On the grounds of the U.S. Post Office in downtown Guthrie, at the southwest corner of First and W. Oklahoma Avenue is a stone marker shaped like the state of Oklahoma. It is about 3 ft. high and 3 ft. wide. The marker reads as follows:
"Land Office / This stone marks the site of the U.S. Land Office where each of 20,000 persons making the "historic Run of 1889" had to appear in person and file a claim. This also is a site of the first post office in old Oklahoma. Erected by Fogarty Jr. High Oklahoma History Classes 1954-55".
