Similar to the northern entrance Welcome sign there is also a Mount Taranaki lava rock as the centre of an orientation table featuring the province's energy related sites.

Taranaki, the province, is dominated by the 2518m /8260 ft Mount Egmont, or Taranaki and since 1959 has been known as the "Energy Province" of New Zealand, containing all the productive petroleum wells in New Zealand - the onshore Kapuni gas field (1959), the giant Maui off-shore gas field (1969), as well as more recent significant productive oil fields, and associated projects.

The centre lava rock is from the eruption of the mountain in 1500AD. The orientation table points out the direction, name and distance to the significant energy sites in Taranaki. Moving around the table clockwise:-
