[FR]La fontaine des éléphants : Cette fontaine est le monument le plus célèbre de Chambéry;il a été érigé en 1838 par le sculpteur grenoblois Pierre-Victor Sappey qui commémore les exploits en Inde du Comte de Boigne (1751-1830). Après la mort de Benoît de Boigne en 1831, la Ville de Chambéry décide d’élever un monument pour perpétuer le souvenir et les bienfaits de l’illustre personnage. Le Conseil de Ville a porté son choix sur le projet du Grenoblois Pierre-Victor Sappey, pour son originalité et son faible coût. Ce monument est inauguré le 10 décembre 1838. L’ensemble, haut de 17,65 mètres, est une habile superposition de trois monuments : une fontaine, une colonne et une statue. La fontaine présente dans son plan la croix de Savoie. Quatre éléphants réunis par la croupe, d'où le surnom populaire de "Quatre sans cul" réalisés en fonte de fer, jettent l’eau par la trompe dans un bassin de forme octogonale. Ils portent chacun une tour de combat surmontée d’un bas-relief

[EN]The fountain of the elephants: this fountain is the most famous landmark in Chambéry; it was set up as 1838 by Pierre-Victor Sappey - the sculptor from Grenoble who commemorates the exploits in India of Count de Boigne ( 1751-1830 ). After the death of Benoît de Boigne in 1831, the City of Chambéry decides to raise a monument to immortalize the memory and the benefactions of the illustrious character. The city Council settled on the project of the Inhabitant of Grenoble Pierre-Victor Sappey, for its originality and its moderate cost. This monument is inaugurated on December 10th, 1838. The set, 17,65 meters high, is a skillful overlapping of three monuments: a fountain, a column and a statue.
The fountain presents in its plan the cross of Savoy. Four elephants gathered by croup, where from the popular nickname of "Four without bottom " realized in iron cast iron, throw the water by the trunk in a pond of octagonal shape. They carry each a tower of fight surmounted by a bas-relief
