Vojenský hrbitov byl založen soucasne s budováním pevnosti Josefov v roce 1780. Místo posledního odpocinku zde nalezli generálové, velitelé, prostí vojáci ale i josefovští meštané. Na následky válecných útrap zde bylo pohrbeno 1148 francouzských zajatcu, kterí se do pevnosti Josefova dostali po bitve národu u Lipska v r. 1813. Prusko - rakouskou válku roku 1866 pripomíná 6 pomníku se jmény dustojníku, kterí zemreli na svá zranení ve vojenské nemocnici, ale také dalších 13 padlých a neznámo kde pohrbených.
Po zrušení pevnosti v roce 1888 byl hrbitov využíván k uložení ostatku vojáku, nebot Josefov zustal i nadále mestem s mnohonárodnostní posádkou. Nejvíce hrobu pribylo behem I. svetové války. Na jižním okraji Josefova byl v té dobe zrízen obrovský internacní tábor, jímž prošlo na 42 tisíc Rusu, Italu a Srbu. Mnozí zde podlehli válecným zranením ci nakažlivým chorobám. Z této doby tu je i krásný pomník obetem od ruského zajatého sochare N. A. Šuškina.

The military cemetery was founded at the same time building forts in the Jewish Quarter in 1780. Final resting place here found the generals, commanders, ordinary soldiers but also josefovští burghers. The consequences of war damage were buried here in 1148 French prisoners, who are the strength of Joseph was named after the Battle of Nations at Leipzig in 1813. Prussia - Austrian war of 1866 recalls the monument with the names of six officers who died from his wounds in a military hospital, but another 13 killed and buried somewhere.
After canceling the fort in 1888, the cemetery was used for the burial of soldiers, as Josefov remained the city with a multiracial crew. Most graves were added during the First World War. On the southern outskirts of Joseph was at that time created a huge internment camp, which were attended by 42,000 Russians, Italians and Serbs. Many here have succumbed to war injuries or infectious diseases. From this time there is a beautiful memorial to the victims of the captured Russian sculptors at Šuškin.
