There are two of these individual firefighter memorials. They surround the large, multi-paned, bay window on the far left side of the firehouse. The memorials are large plaques, black with gold, raised lettering. They are identical. This memorial reads:
In Memory of
William E. Ervin
1910 - 2003
In 1928, at the age of 18, William E. Ervin joined the
Cornwells Fire Company. He served the company for 75
years, which at present is the longest continuously active
member ever. In that time Bill held many offices, both as an
executive and fire fighter line officer. As vice president,
treasurer, and trustee Bill put in collectively 23 years. He
served four years as first assistant chief, and was chief for
an unprecedented 20 years. Bill was not only active in the
company but was active in the entire fire fighting
community. He was president of the Bucks County Fireman's
Association, life member of the International Association of
Fire Chiefs, and the first fire marshal of Bensalem Township.
His knowledge and dedication will be truly missed by the
community and members of the Cornwells Fire Company.
This memorial has been erected through the generosity of
his friends, family, and members of the community of
Bensalem Township.
