Delaware Historic Marker on 3rd Street in Old New Castle. The location marks several dikes along Narrow Dyke Canal.
Original dyke built by Dutch 1655. Center of twelve mile circle marking top of Delaware, surveyed 1701, by Empson and Pusey.
LOCATION: New Castle – Chestnut Street, veer northeast at 3rd Street conjunction.
Although this sign states that the dyke is the center of the twelve mile circle, the actual center is the court house in Old New Castle. The dyke was using in determining the center of New Castle.
