Also known as "Die Alte Kirche" and "the Marienkirche", this stone church dates from 1863, and served as the parish Church until a new and much larger sanctuary was built in 1906.

While it has not been used as the sanctuary for over a century, it has served the Church in other ways over the years, and today functions as the Parish Hall.

From the near by Texas State Historical marker we learn:
St. Mary's Parish dates to 1846 when the parish worshiped in log Church building. This building was completed in 1863 and served as the parish church until a larger building was constructed in 1906, after which it served a variety of purposes. The fine Gothic features of Old St. Mary's are exhibited in its distinctive steeple, pointed-arch windows, and stone buttresses.

Construction of this church began in 1860, the cornerstone was blessed in June of 1861, the building was completed in November 1863, and the dedication took place on November 22, 1863.
The church was built in the cruciform style of architecture, typical of Christian churches. It has two-foot thick limestone walls, a roof was composed of hand cut rafters, and features a seventy-two foot high steeple. Its twelve Gothic arched windows commemorate the twelve apostles.
