Also known as Ponte de Nossa Senhora da Ajuda, built in 1501, in Renaissance style with Classic influences, served mainly the people from Olivença (Spain) and Elvas (Portugal). It was partially destroyed by a flood in late 16th Century.
In 1640, was rebuilt just to be, again, destroyed after a coupe of years, during the war of Restauração (Portugal vs Spain). It was rebuilt for a last time after the war but in 1709 a Spanish army destroyed the bridge leaving it as it is today. Later, much later, in 1903, there were talks about the renovation of the bridge but that never happened. In 2000 a brand new bridge, about 400 m from the old one, was inaugurated.
