The walkway over the dunes to prevent users from destroying the beach dunes and flora, was opened in summer 2006 but left in the middle of the beach, leaving a vast area of dunes without any protection. At the time, the Board forwarded to INAG their desire to see the connection of Sao Martinho do Porto Salir (Caldas da Rainha) through the bridge.
