The Columbus Public Library is one of the largest with the most spacious property of any library I've seen. It is a fittng location for the Rotary International organization to place a commemorative marker celebrating the Rotary's 100 years of service to this and other communities. The centennial marker is formed by a number of terra cotta tiles with bass relief images on most of them depicting various services performed by the Rotary International as well as a central logo of the gear used as the symbol of the organization. Across the top are the words, "Celebrate Rotary / 100 Years of Service Above Self / 1905 / 2005." In the center of the square is the Rotary iconic gear engraved with "Rotary International." Then, along the very bottom tiles, the artist's name, Mike Elliott, is engraved in the brickwork. This marker is at least 6 feet x 6 feet and is mounted at an angle on a raised base that is about 3 feet high at the bottom and slopes upward to about 4 feet or less at the top. The base is prefab concrete sections and there is a concrete edging that frames the red clay bricks of the actual marker described here. The Columbus Public Library and the Rotary International centennial marker are located at 3000 Macon Road, Columbus, GA.
