Cinderdale bridge leads east in to Wasdale from Nether Wasdale. There are only two roads in to Wasdale, this is one of them.

In the past this would have been a packhorse bridge. Now widened for wheeled traffic and walls added for safety. When this bridge was used by pack horses, it may have been the route to carry slate and other minerals to the port of Ravenglass, connecting with other bridges up the valley.
