Thomas F. Dixon, Jr. was born on January 11, 1964 in Shelby, North Carolina. He was a Baptist minister, playwright, state legislator, lawyer, and author. He is perhaps best known for writing "The Clansman" which became the inspiration for D. W. Griffith's film, The Birth of a Nation. Thomas Dixon died on April 3, 1946 and is buried in Sunset Cemetery in Shelby, North Carolina.
