Radyni nechal postavit Karel IV. v roce 1358, spolu s hradem v Kašperku mela mít pevnostní charakter. Jeho puvodní nemecký název Karlskrone se neujal a brzy se hradu nad Starým Plzencem zacalo ríkat podle oznacení kopce na kterém stojí.
Po smrti Karla IV, se majitelem stává jeho syn Václav IV. Ten jej v roce 1400 zastavil a vyplatil až po dvanácti letech. Purkrabím byl jmenován Oldrich z Letkova.
Z neho se ale stává lupic a bourí se proti Václavovi. Král Václav posílá na Radyni vojsko aby uklidnil situaci. Není známé jestli hrad dobýval nebo jestli jej Oldrichovi zabavil bez boje - jako pokutu za odbojovou cinnost.
Za husitských válek stáli pánové z Radyne na katolické strane a posílali do obléhané Plzne zásoby s jídlem. Jako odmenu její správci získávají zástavní právo na královský hrad.
Po roce 1437 se majitelé na Radyni casto strídají, až se hrad dostane do majetku rodu Šternberka.
Sternberkove na Radyni nebydlí, používají jí pouze jako lovecké sídlo. Radyne pomalu chátrá. Presný rok zkázy není znám. Podle odhadu historiku se tak stalo v roce 1536, kdy Radyne vyhorela zásahem blesku.
Hrad už nebyl obnoven. K cástecné obnone, zakonzervování ruin, došlo ve dvacátých letech dvacátého století. To se o hrad staral Spolek pro záchranu Radyne a Hurky.
V padesátých letech byl spolek zrušen a hrad patrí státu. Na jeho veži je vybudován prevadec televizního signálu.
Další malá oprava byla v sedmdesátých letech, verejnosti je prístupný od roku 1981.

Radyne was built by Charles IV. In 1358, together with the castle in Kašperk should have strength in character. Its original German title Karlskrone soon faded, and soon the castle of Old Plzenec became known as marked hill on which it stands.
After the death of Charles IV, the owner becomes his son Wenceslas IV. That it stopped in 1400 and paid up to twelve years. Burgrave was appointed Ulrich Letkov.
For him, however, becomes a robber and rebel against Wenceslas. King Wenceslas to Radyne sends troops to calm the situation. It is not known whether the castle, or whether it brought Ulrich seized without a fight - as a penalty for resistance activities.
During the Hussite wars of Radyne gentlemen stood on the Catholic side and sent to the besieged Pilsen with food supplies. As a reward the managers receive a lien on the royal castle.
After 1437, the owners of Radyne often turns up the castle to get property of Sternberg.
Šternberks Radyne not live in, use it only as a hunting lodge. Radyne is slowly deteriorating. The exact year is unknown doom. According to historians estimated it happened in 1536 when Radyne burned by lightning.
The castle has been restored. The partial obnone, freezing ruins, was in the twenties of the twentieth century. This is the castle of the Association for the care and rescue Radyne Hurky.
In the fifties the club was closed and the castle belongs to the state. The tower is built of the television signal converter.
Another small fix was in seventies, is open to the public since 1981.
