These cranes in the poind, along with a pagoda, provide a peaceful atmosphere for meditation and serenity near the entrance of Cheonan Memorial Park.

The traditional family burial sites still dot the country-side of Korea, with their familiar mounded graves and stone tablets, eleveated and well maintained, but as the population becomes more urban, large public cemeteries are becoming more prevalent.

Cheonan Memorial Park rambles over the hills covering several hundred acres south of the city of Cheonan, a metropolis of about a 500,000 in South Chungcheon Province, Korea.

One of the most famous interments here is recently deceased internationally acclaimed fashion designer Andre Kim, whose parents are also buried here.

Best estimate is that there are at least 10,000 graves here.
