In the Halibut Cove part of the Kachemak Bay State Park, there are four public use cabins where people can stay. This one is in the West Cabin, which has a great view of Halibut Cove and the beach nearby.

The guest book is more than just a date, signature, location from, and a short comment. The entries are typically from a paragraph to a page, though some entries spill onto a second page. The book that was present in the cabin has been in the cabin since about June 2008, based on the first date in the book. Entries typically are of the party's experiences while there - the trails taken, kayaking done, wildlife seen, and so forth.

The public use cabins are available to the public, but they must be reserved ahead of time. The cabins are maintained by the Alaska Department of Natural Resources. Fees are $50 non-peak / $65 peak per night.

The web site is here:

To get to the cabin, you can't go by car. You have the option of either a seaplane or water taxi to your location. Both can be reserved in the town of Homer. The parking coordinates given are on Homer Spit, which is where you can obtain a water taxi.
