An early morning day after Thanksgiving Space Station sighting. Communicating with Outspoken1, we established 11/26/10 at 5:20-30 AM as the sighting opportunity.
In the market for a TV and other furnishings, I was feet from the Best Buy checkout when my alarm went off. Upon exiting the building I becan scanning the sky. Having to park behind the store worked to my advantage: the exterior lights were not on, and the sky appeared brighter. The clear skys and a slight breeze allowed the Space Station to be observed from this vantage point.
The ISS was discernable at my location starting at 05:29:45 PST coming from WSW reaching a maximum elevation of 78° while traveling to the NE. It was visible for 4 minutes and came as close as 243 miles (385 kilometers) at its maximum height. The ISS traveled 597.21 miles NE (61°) [961.12 kilometers] in 1 minute, 11 seconds from Boulder City, NV at maximum altitude time of 05:30:35am PST to 06:31:46am MST in Thornton, CO. The magnitude of this orbit was -3.6. (from link)
