Wilderness Road ford over the Cumberland River. The Wilderness Road was created by migrating buffalo, and then used by the Native Americans. Daniel Boone led settlers over this route into central Kentucky. Critical crossing during the Civil War.

The road eventually became part of the Dixie Highway, leading down to the Cumberland Gap.
