This 140-foot Bailey Bridge is not original to the former Joliet Army Ammunition Plant. There were two Bailey Bridges on arsenal property, but they fell into disrepair and could not be salvaged.
To provide the appropriate historic aspect, this surplus Bailey Bridge was purchased and assembled to over this segment of Prairie Creek.
Thirty nine volunteers spent 928 man-hours over 5 days to assemble and install the bridge.
The bridge is not accessible by vehicle - except by guided tour. Visitors must park at the coordinates listed below and walk or bike to the bridge which is approximately 3 miles away. Since it is a 6-mile round trip, please plan your visit accordingly because the park does close after dark.
