At the Shawnee Fire Department located on the south side of the City Hall building at 16 W. 9th Street, is a familiar yellow and black sign announcing it to be a Safe Place for youth in distress. The logo shows a child being held securely in the arms of an adult.
Safe Place is a community program in which a local youth agency sets up public locations as a network of places where youth in crisis can get immediate help. Any youth under age 18 can get help at a Safe Place site. If a child is having problems at home, suffering from abuse or neglect, lost or in some dangerous situation, with a drunk or unsafe driver, or just need to talk about a problem, they can go to the nearest Safe Place site.
Where was the sign located?: Fire Station
