Long Description:Steve Arlo. Daryl Zero. They have private investigation covered
from A to Z. Solving a murder is easy. Living--being a functioning
person away from the job--that's hard.
Bill Pullman is Zero: the world's greatest (and most eccentric)
private detective, who never meets his clients, but sends his
associate Arlo (Stiller) instead; a genius on the job, a basket
case in life. Ben Stiller is Arlo, Zero's frustrated front man.
Their new case: find a shady lumber tycoon Gregory "Greg" Stark's
(Ryan O'Neal) missing keys, a search unlocking a Pandora's Box of
blackmail, revenge and murder. But when love zeros in on Zero, the
world's greatest detective suddenly hasn't got a clue. In a nice
twist, he falls in love with a woman every bit the genius that he
is.
Portland, the City of Roses, is shown throughout this delightful
film with no one location standing out. There are several scenes at
Portland International Airport including Budget Rental. The 536 ft.
high U.S. Bancorp Tower (aka Big Pink) is glimpsed several times.
MAX light rail is shown, and heard. The St. Johns Bridge in
northwest Portland, and Crown Point in the Columbia River Gorge
(you can't get there by bus) is shown. The lower part of Crown
Point becomes the G. McFetridge Planetarium!
Clever, original screenplay. "Two Thumbs Up, Way Up!"--Siskel
& Ebert. Even better the second time around.
