The cross was donated by Josef Havlik, a farmer from Zakolany, in the memory of saving of his life in cart accident - this is the story as he told it to Vaclav Dlouhy, the village teacher:
"Some time ago I delivered coal to the cemetery keeper at Budec, loaded there my cart with hay and was returning home by this broken road. Right in this curve, when I was turning left. the axie got broken - the cart was driving quickly to the edge of the slope, stroke down one of the horses and this horse was the cause of my almost miraculous rescue. The loaded cart got slowed down by the horse body, and finally it stopped at the very edge of the slope and I could step down. To my surprise and joy, the horse didn't suffer even a scratch. Except of the bad axie I haven't lost anything, even when I could lose all, including my life. Thanking God for my remarkable rescue, I made a promise to build a stone cross here in this place where my life and possessions were in danger".
Vaclav Dlouhy wrote the story down and it was stored in a glass capsule into the base of the cross. The consecration took place on July 24th, 1898.
The cross was repaired in 2009, the capsule was retrieved and you can read the story on the information board standing nearby.
